Beyond Meat said it will introduce Beyond Pork, a new plant-based ground pork product, in the China market.
It is the company's first product designed specifically for China, which has one of the highest pork consumption rates in the world and where ground pork in particular is a staple of the cuisine, Beyond Meat said in a press release.
The product will have the juicy texture and culinary versatility of traditional 70/30 ground pork, but with roughly 50% less saturated and total fat, the company said. Beyond Pork has 18.5 grams of protein per 100-gram serving, and is made without GMOs, antibiotics or hormones.
The company, whose teams in Los Angeles and Shanghai collaborated to develop the product, is partnering with five popular restaurants in Shanghai to offer a Beyond Pork menu item at each for a limited time.
