BRF S.A. said Canada has authorized chicken wing exports from two of its plants in Mato Grosso state, and the company also is seeking approval to export pork to the country, Reuters reported this week.
The Brazilian processor considers Canada a key market, and with the approval of the Nova Mutum and Lucas do Rio Verde facilities, now has 15 plants authorized to sell chicken products to Canada, the report said.
BRF, the world's largest chicken exporter, has set an ambitious goal to triple annual net revenue to BRL100 billion ($19.7 billion) over the next decade, with the first phase of growth focused on diversifying its global presence and boosting its share of Brazil's ready meals market.
Chicken wings are a hot commodity, with prices hitting historic highs at the start of the year in response to reduced slaughter and strong demand, according to a recent Rabobank analysis.
