After more than a year-and-a-half of unprecedented challenges providing groceries and food items to the Canadian public, Costco was rated the top national retailer against 13 peers in a Dart poll of 3,784 Canadians during the month of September 2021.
“The global pandemic thrust these retailers in multiple directions over the past 20 months. From immediate consumer stockpiling and supply chain disruptions to their valiant frontline essential workers and the pivoting of business/delivery operations for online and delivery services, every single one of these retailers truly deserves our respect,” said Jeff Munn, Executive Director of the Canada’s Most Respected Award Program. “Costco captured the top national rating, which is a wonderful accomplishment.”
Costco’s “Respect Score” of 66.9, beat Your Independent Grocer (64.8), Metro (62.3), Real Canadian Superstore (61.5), and Sobeys (61.4).
Other retail banners rating above the Respect Score average in the grocery/food category were No Frills (60.7), IGA (60.4), and Loblaws (59.5). Below-average scores were recorded by Food Basics (58.4), FreshCo (57.6), Save-On Foods (56.0), Safeway (55.5), Foodland (54.5), and Walmart (54.4), which came in last.
